These looks are at-home on a yacht, playing polo and catching up in the country club!
The Secret to the Old Money Men’s Haircut
Steven Picciano, master stylist, owner of Glass Beauty Bar and Goldwell ambassador, explains that old money men’s hairstyles should never look forced. “Old money men’s hair should look like the result of both impeccable genetics and discreet grooming—effortless, yet unmistakably refined,” he explains. “It’s the artful balance of length: slightly grown out on top and around the parietal ridge (where the head transitions from top to sides), yet clean and tapered along the perimeter.”
To get the look, don’t reach for pomade or gel. Instead try leaning into your natural hair texture. “The style shouldn’t rely on heavy product; instead, it should embrace natural texture with a touch of undone elegance,” Picciano explains. “Think Disney prince meets a polo-playing cologne model. When you’re in the chair, ask your stylist for soft tapering on the sides and to leave length through the crown and ridge. Finish with lightweight creams or texture sprays—never stiff gels—for a look that feels timeless, not try-hard.”

How to Style Old Money Hair for Men
While Picciano cautions against overusing product, it takes a little styling to nail the old money look for men. “For that effortlessly refined look, let your hair air-dry whenever possible,” Picciano advises. “If your hair is thick, apply a leave-in conditioner to keep it soft and manageable; if it’s finer, opt for a lightweight texture cream for subtle volume. Comb the product through damp hair, then towel-dry gently to preserve natural movement.”
Then, use a small amount of matte styling paste when your hair is fully dry to get your lived-in and tousled look. “Use about a quarter-sized amount of paste, warm it between your palms and run your hands through your hair, lifting it up and back,” says Picciano. “Then, tousle it gently from side to side to ensure even distribution and a sense of easy sophistication. Use the remaining product to lightly press down the hair by your ears and at the nape of your neck, keeping the perimeter clean and controlled.” And finally, use a wide-tooth comb to shape your look into place.
“Don’t worry about perfection—the beauty of this look is in its subtle imperfection,” Picciano says. “As the day goes on, let it relax and settle. That touch of natural dishevelment is exactly what makes it feel authentic.”
